Hey Bono fans, hang in there while we take a moment to make an important distinction here: Apple released two types of U2 iPods, and the batteries (and procedures used to replace them) are completely different between the two versions.
The first U2 iPod has a black front, silver back, red ScrollWheel, and a 20GB hard drive. This unit can play music, but has a monochrome screen so it cannot display color photographs of video. To get a sense of how the battery is replaced in this first version of the U2 iPod, watch this video of 4th Generation iPod, which is exactly the same except for the white front face. The second U2 iPod that Apple released (often called the U2 iPod Video) also has a black front, silver back, red ScrollWheel, but has a 30GB hard drive AND it can display color photographs and full-motion video, in addition to playing music. Since this unit is most similar to the 5th Generation iPod Video, this video is the best one to see to get an idea of the battery replacement process.
