Despite the hard metal exterior, iPod mini repairs are going to be required sooner or later. This model is very popular among iPod enthusiasts, with its' solid exterior and small form factor. But there are many little components inside that are susceptible to damage or that may simply wear out with use over time.

The first component to burn out inside the iPod mini is usually the battery, followed by the audio jack assembly and the LCD. If the iPod mini screen fails, it is just a matter of finding a reputable repair company to remove the bad one and install the new one. The audio jack is pretty much the same thing – a technician can gently remove the old one and install the new part (during which care must be taken as this board connects directly to the logic board).

In our experience, one of the most durable iPod mini parts is the little 4GB or 6GB hard drive that lives inside the metal case. But even these can fail over time and can be replaced with a brand new disk drive. Once it is formatted and you transfer all of your songs back, you will never know the difference.

Another common issue with the iPod mini is the ScrollWheel, which is the part of the iPod that you use to select settings and songs. Most navigation issues can be resolved by replacing the ScrollWheel outright, and if that doesn't fix the iPod mini, you may have to replace the logic board. Unfortunately, this solution is a bit more expensive than just replacing the wheel, but still worthy of consideration.

Moreover and perhaps bordering on being a bit too specific, there are actually two versions, or generations, or the Apple iPod mini. We mention this because there are two iPod mini parts in particular that are not interchangeable between the two types: the LCD and the ScrollWheel assembly. Why Apple chose to do this is a bit of a mystery to us, but particular care is needed when selecting these parts so choosing a repair company that knows their stuff is very important.
